課程概述

Course Description
This seminar aims to lay theoretical foundation for addressing issues of language, subject formation and abjection in A Portrait of the Artist as Young Man and Ulysses in light of the psychoanalytic theories in the works of Jacques Lacan and Julia Kristeva.

課程目標
Course Objectives
This seminar will deal with the issues of language, subject formation and abjection in A Portrait of the Artist as Young Man and Ulysses. It will first cover Lacan’s theorization of Unconscious and language, and then move on to central issues in Kristeva’s central works. In the second half of the seminar, a series of critiques from critics of Joycean Studes will be addressed in hope of further exploration into James Joyce’s works.
